Calling all local artists and artisans.
The Sayle Gallery will be running its annual Art in the Park again this year, but for 2017 we hope to make it bigger and better. We are inviting local artists to join in and help create a summery, creative, festival atmosphere in the beautiful gardens at the Villa.
There are two ways in which artists are invited to get involved:
1. We are looking for people who are prepared to spend the whole weekend inspiring children (and their adults) to engage with creative activity through workshops/try outs/demonstrations. The emphasis is on inspiring visitors to join in and have a go at creating themselves. It is a busy weekend, involving hard work but can be very rewarding working with appreciative children in a cooperative atmosphere. In the past we have had wood carving, communal large scale painting, stained glass, ceramics etc. We are open to any ideas you might have to extend the range from large mural painting through to miniature jewellery or model making. We will be seeking sponsorship so that any artists taking part in this way can expect to be paid for their time and materials. Artists involved with providing practical activities will be invited to take part in a group show within the gallery where you can display a body of work (for sale if you wish, normal gallery commission would apply). Alongside this exhibition of the contributing artists, we will create a small, short-term show of work produced over the weekend by visitors to the park. Please get in touch on 674557 or at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are able and willing to join in.
2. We are offering pitches to anyone who would like to book a spot to have their own stall to display, and offer for sale, a range of their own work. You would have to supply your own gazebo (recommended as the weather cannot be guaranteed, although there are undercover areas which could offer a retreat) but tables can be borrowed from the Villa. You would be responsible for manning your own pitch but there will be plenty of people around to cover each other for tea or comfort breaks. Each pitch is £120 for the three days with no commission to pay. Your work could be securely stored in the gallery overnight (space permitting) to save transporting stuff backwards and forwards over the weekend.
If you are interested in taking part, please get in touch as soon as possible (we need to know the numbers and materials we are fundraising for). We will be setting up a planning meeting as soon after TT as possible. You can phone us on 674557 or email us at email@example.com.
