Sarah Callow and Janet Lees exhibit in Wales

Sarah Callow and Janet Lees have both had work selected for inclusion in an exhibition curated by Gallery At Home in Monmouthshire, Wales and the UK based professional photography organisation The Shutter Hub. The exhibition is called HOME. It opened on Saturday 5th October and runs until the 19th October. The event coincides with International Homelessness Day on 10th October. All proceeds from print sales from the event will be split between 3 very worthy charities; Crisis UK, Shelter Cymru and Toiletries Amnesty.

Janet said, ‘I’m so happy to have five images in this stunning exhibition, and especially to have the opportunity to support the work of these incredibly dedicated and hard-working charities. Responding to the theme of home was for me emotional rather than literal. Since I was very young I’ve found the feeling of home in a whole range of situations and experiences. I think it’s essentially a feeling of being connected and protected. There are too many people who don’t have this sense of safety, because they don’t have homes or a support network, and have experienced trauma in their lives. The images I submitted reflect both these emotional states.’

The exhibition comprises of 200 selected images from 80 photographers from around the world. Sarah told me that she feels very humble to have been selected and to be part of such a meaningful project. The link below explains further:

Also in October, Sarah will be exhibiting a selection of 6 hand crafted, 12” x 16″ darkroom prints at the 2019 London Photo Show. This event will take place at the Bargehouse Gallery, in the OXO Building on London’s Southbank. This show opens to the public from 17th October.

This exhibition is an open group exhibition with no overarching theme, that will showcase the unique and original artwork of photographers from all over the world.

Sarah said “I feel very excited and a little daunted to be exhibiting in such a prestigious venue, with other world ranking photographers. But it’s great to showcase the talents of the Isle of Man on a global stage. I have been able to attend the event with generous support from the Isle Of Man Arts Council.”
