I am a self-taught artist, preferring to tell the story, rather than paint the subject in great detail. Whilst I only took up painting in watercolour in 2001, art has always played an important part in my life.
I love to paint en-plein air (in the open air), which inspires me to be more expressive. My style is very loose and impressionistic. I also greatly enjoy pen and wash, and drawing. Every day I draw something. Any success comes with practise, practise and practise.
Portrait painting is a skill I have yet to tackle. However I am working on it!
Light and tone are very important in any painting. Light gives vibrancy to the finished work.
Strong colours play an important role in my work. Although sometimes I do paint more gently.
I greatly admire the work of Archibald Knox, Norman Sayle and Edward Seago. Joseph Zbukvic, Alvaro Castagnet and Trevor Chamberlain are my inspirational living artists. I have been influenced by them all, and have evolved my own style in the process.
I am pleased to take on commissions and provide prints by request.
I also paint “In the style of” certain artists.
I really hope that you enjoy my work. It’s my privilege to have been asked to exhibit at the Hodgson Loom Gallery in September 2017.
