Inspiring another generation
The Island’s natural and cultural landscape has shaped and inspired creative talent for many generations. From the well known Archibald Knox to the contemporary fashion design duo Preen, creatives working in all forms have taken inspiration from our unique biosphere.
From 28th April to 2nd May, the Sayle Gallery is host to ‘Inspiring Another Generation’. An exhibition of over 60 examples of work produced for the creative industries including, film, animation, fashion, graphics, advertising, painting, design, craft, jewellery and sculpture.
Juan Moore, Artist and Lecturer at UCM said ‘If you are interested in the impact of living and being educated on the Isle of Man and seeing some of the fantastic creative talent progressing from our University College, then this exhibition is not to be missed’.
Globally the industry is worth $2.25 trillion which is 3% of the world GDP and employs 29.5 million. The creative industries on the Isle of Man are vibrant, diverse and growing.
Jo Pretty, Principal of UCM said ‘The work on display is not intended to be the main focus of this exhibition, although I suspect in many cases it will engage and inspire you. Instead the placement of work, within global collections, such as the Saachi collection, brands including Nike, Vogue and John Lewis, tell us of the achievements and successful careers the artists are enjoying.
The creatives in this exhibition have one thing in common – they are all alumni of the the University College, Isle of Man (formerly known as the Isle of Man College). Inspiring past generations, the University College will continue to inspire future generations’.
